Welcome to Many Paths to Tread!

Welcome to Many Paths to Tread, your place for Tolkien related fanfic!  We are glad to welcome stories set in any Age of Arda, and featuring any of the Races!  If your fanfiction is based on the works of J.R.R. Tolkien and falls within our ratings guidelines, then it may find a home here.

We hope that you will not only post your stories with us, but that you will read the stories of many of the other fine writers we have among our number, and will leave comments for them!

Please feel free to let the mods know if you have any questions or concerns!

Meet the Moderators

Hey everyone, Cathleen here! I want to take this opportunity to welcome you all to the GFIC Group's brand new archive! We hope you'll find "Many Paths to Tread" an enjoyable place to hang out and archive your work. I've been writing Fanfic since 2004, coming in the back door, so to speak, by starting out in a non-mainstream genre, and via movie verse. I've had the pleasure of working with a number of incredible people in the fandom since that time, and I'm eternally grateful for each and every one of them and the things they have taught me. My heartfelt thanks to Dreamflower, Pearl Took, and Dawn Felagund, for without their committment and hard work, this archive would have continued to exist only in my dreams!

Hello, I'm Dreamflower, one of your mods. I've been in the Tolkien fandom since 1967, and have been writing LOTR fanfic since 2004. Cathleen asked me to co-mod the LOTR_Community_GFIC with her, and it has been a fun and enlightening experience. I am very excited to see us finally get our very own archive launched, and I hope that all of you will have a lot of fun reading and posting stories here! Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have.

Hi, I'm Pearl Took and I'm one of your Mods here at Many Paths to Tread. I have been a fan of LOTR since I was twelve years old back in 1966. I started writing fanfiction in 2002 and posted my first story in 2003. Since then I've written over 100 stories. Recently I have only been writing challenge stories for the LOTR Community Challenges.

I'm Dawn Felagund, and I'm honored to have been asked to be a part of this site as the webmaster and one of the moderators. The Lord of the Rings movies inspired me to read more about Tolkien's world, and I've been hooked ever since. I primarily play in the Silmarillion sandbox and adore the Elves best of all. I look forward to reading the stories on the archive and encourage any of you with questions or troubles with the site to contact me.

I'm Celeritas, the latest addition to the Mod Team! I started writing Tolkien fan fiction in 2004, but didn't join the fandom online for another four years. I primarily work with hobbits, in order to explore daily life in the Shire; and the Fourth Age, in order to explore the relationship between the present and an increasingly legendary past. It's a real privilege involving myself further in the fandom this way. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

February News

The February Challenge:

The February Challenge will have the theme "Eye of the Beholder". Your story for this challenge will be a story inspired by art from last month's Art Challenge. Elements for the challenge will be one of the submitted art pieces. There were eleven works of art posted, and you may choose the one you wish to use. Since we may have more than eleven authors, you may choose one which has already been "spoken for".

Here are links to the Art Challenge entries behind the cut:

The February challenge stories will be due Tuesday, February 14th, and will be revealed on Thursday, February 16th. Please tag your story "eye of the beholder". Please remember to use the header template on the community profile page, and to put the name of your story and your name in the subject line.

To request your elements, please leave a comment to this post with the title of the art you chose; I will respond with the code, so that you can embed it with your story if you want to.

If you have not participated before, please leave an email address so that I can send you your elements. Or you can email the mods at aelfwina@gmail.com, virginia_lee_redcat@yahoo.com, or celeritassagittae@gmail.com.

I hope we'll have lots of participants for our February challenge!

January 2012 Potluck Challenge

We had eighteen stories and sixteen authors participate in this year's potluck challenge!  Congratulations and thanks to all who took part!

Back to Middle-earth Month!

March is "Back to Middle-earth Month", and as usual we will be partnering with the Silmarillion Writer's Guild to present a unique set of challenges.

Back to Middle-earth Month is an annual challenge that honors Tolkien's universe and encourages creativity based on it. All Tolkien-based creative work is welcome! This year, in honor of the 75th anniversary of The Hobbit, Bingo Baggins cordially invites you to a party in March to play--what else?--BINGO! Players will choose themed BINGO cards, each block of which contains a different challenge. The first player to complete a row of five challenges wins the game!

Below, you will find the rules for the game, which will begin on March 1 and run through the month. As we prepare for this year's event, however, we are hoping that B2MeM participants will first help us in other ways.

We need your help to create a range of diverse and fun BINGO cards! A form for sending your ideas to us can be found on the Silmarillion Writers Guild archive and will be coming soon to the Many Paths to Tread archive [just as soon as Dawn chases the bugs out of it on that site!].

We need help getting the word out! B2MeM is a challenge for the entire Tolkien fandom. All formats, genres, eras, characters, and ratings are welcome. If you know other writers, artists, or groups that might be interested in the challenge, pass the word along--the more the merrier!

(Please be a good citizen on your group and make sure it's okay to make promotional posts before posting about B2MeM on other groups.)

If you own/moderate a group and would like to become a B2MeM affiliate to help us to host the challenge this year, contact any of the community moderators, and we will send challenge materials to you.

We need graphic artists to help us make participant banners for the challenge! Participants can choose their banners or learn more about making banners here.

We hope that many members at Many Paths to Tread will choose to take part this year!

The MEFAs

We would like to congratulate all the winners and participants in the 2011 Middle-earth Fanfiction Awards!  Remember you are welcome to post your winning banners along with your stories here at the archive!
