The Path of Wisdom

I think lots of times, evil starts out trying to do good, but willfulness and pride is its downfall.  Just to think he could hide his intentions from Sauron ensured his failure.

Author's Response:

Yes, his pride was indeed his downfall.  Saruman is a classic example of hubris, thinking that he was clever enough, and wise enough, to delve into the enemy's mind without falling prey to the enemy himself.

The Path of Wisdom

The formatting of this piece really helped with the tone and atmosphere of Saruman's voice. It almost seemed to show mirror-opposites in some respects, even while the two stanzas were effectively tied into one cohesive piece. Wonderful use of technique. The content of this was also well-done. You portrayed an accurate peek into Saruman's mind, and instead of making the reader feel emotion on behalf of the narrator, you let the narrator speak for himself and evoke emotion on his own power. Very nice.

Author's Response:

Thank you very much for your thoughtful comment!  I really enjoy this particular form of poetry, both the regular one stanza dribbles and, like this one the double inverted form.  I'm glad you thought that I portrayed Saruman's state of mind in a way that rang true.
