Epilogue and Author's Notes

Wow wow wow this is truly amazing. Hahahaha I got so many good laughs out of it too. I love the drawing in chap. 36. ;) And what would be really hilarious is a repilica of treasonous sketch that Pippin commissioned...

Anyways I love your portrayal of the hobbits, and the whole Eowyn/Faramir situation was quite funny. Also Arwen plays her part well as mastermind. She was quite hilarious and cunning through out the whole story. The fact that Khandis was a woman came as a total surprise.

I really loved the first chapters, but somehow the story definitely seemed to get even better as it progressed. All the complexity and intertwining parts are so fun. Thanks for a great read!

Epilogue and Author's Notes

OK, I finished this on my Nook. Disadvantage of e-reader: I can't give instant feedback on every chapter!  But I have to say, this was a very funny and fun story-- I absolutely adored the twist at the end that the Khandis was a woman, LOL!  That I did NOT see coming, although looking back I really should have, right from the start.

I adore your Merry/Estella.

And I LOVED Frodo's shocked reaction to the old lady's shocked reaction to his song.  Still it was great that he felt up to singing on a table again.  (I'm not sure he will ever be up to doing it again, however, considering how it ended up the last couple of times.)

I also loved how you managed not only to slip in a little angst now and then, but even a little bitterness in unexpected spots (such as Pippin's response to Merry's remark about a cousin getting rid of jewelry-- it's the little things that blindside a person sometimes.  If you've been through traumatic times, you sometimes don't *know* what's going to be triggery!)

This whole thing was delightful, but I have to say, I would love to know how Eomer's courtship of Lothiriel played itself out in THIS AU!  That is one devious little minx.

On the whole, it was FUN!FUN!FUN!

Author's Response:

Wheee!

I'm so glad you enjoyed the fic!  It was a real riot to write!

I'm glad that the Khandis was a plot twist for you--I was afraid that the name might give it away a little, but it was too good not to use.

I can't wait till I have an opportunity in canon to write Merry/Estella on a little more equal/little less eggshells footing.  They're so much fun to write together!  (Also looking forward to exploring Pippin/Diamond, though that's already reserved for another fic in progress...)

I think this day provided Frodo with an opportunity like none other--to forget that any of this had ever happened, because everything had already gone so mad, he didn't feel he had to act like... well, himself!  Add that really really good "Shire beer" and the table was basically inevitable.  As far as other "table moments" go, well, the inns are going to take a while to go back up in the Shire and somehow I don't think that Elves are the table type.  (This wouldn't stop Bilbo, of course, but somehow I think Frodo would be reluctant!)

And this has been one of my few opportunities so far to explore the immediately Post-Quest dynamic among the characters, especially the hobbits, so the more serious bits--like Merry and Pippin both resenting Sam a little that he's now closer to Frodo than they can ever be--had to get in.  Besides, once I had the concept down, I wanted to see how "straight" I could play all the characters.

And Eomer/Lothiriel was just fun to write all over!  (Incidentally, yes, Lothiriel's tolerance is much higher than that.)  And maybe, once he's done cursing her entire family from Isengard to Anduin, Eomer will realize that Lothiriel never actually told an untruth the entire time he was with her (that darn Rohirric lie detector in the Riders of Rohan threw me for so many loops writing this!).  Which means that, yes, she was growing fond of him...

Anyway--

I am so pleased you enjoyed this whole thing, and I really liked all the reviews you left!

Ah, my wish for Gondorian papparazi has come true...sort of! *grin*

Author's Response:

Who needs papparazi when you have Pippin?

Ooh! Eomer decidedly DESERVES to have to wear a dress at some point!!!

Author's Response:

Yes, he does!

Awww...perfectly sweet!  And still funny...

Author's Response:

Yup.  Even in a dress, the King can still be kingly!

"A gentlehobbit doesn't kiss and tell."

More snerking, as I imagine Eowyn kissing Faramir senseless.

Author's Response:

Although, if you have to faint, that's probably a very nice way to go...

And yes, this was the throwaway line that inspired my take on Merry/Estella, even if it's a really cracky AU...

Umm...I think that even if Heledir had chosen a better day (and really, he couldn't possibly have chosen a worse one) he would not find that the King would have much patience with this particular complaint...

Author's Response:

No, he wouldn't!  The question is, how will today change the manner in which he deals with it?

Oh, this is going to be a day to remember.

It's a shame Gondor had no such amenities as papparazi, or cell phone cameras or YouTube...

Author's Response:

No, but they do have Pippin!

But...I hope Frodo doesn't miss the rest of the fun.  I do hope he gets to see Strider and Faramir in their finery!

Author's Response:

Oh, don't worry, he won't be out of commission for the whole day...

There have been times in my life when I have *literally* laughed myself sick.  I can easily imagine Arwen driven to such a state by these two.

Author's Response:

I think Merry and Pippin could get a lot of people to laugh themselves sick!

Aww...poor Frodo. Pippin's right, he *does* need distraction!

Author's Response:

He really does!  Fortunately, since this is a humor fic, it won't take long...

I think Elrond is enjoying this too much as well.

And I'm not certain he's judging the reactions of his other sons or Legolas correctly: I am quite sure they would NOT wish to miss this sight!

Author's Response:

He's certainly not judging his sons' reactions correctly!

Oh, I don't know.  An appeal to cousin Lothiriel might just have the desired effect-- I am quite sure Eomer would be even more eager to prove his devotion, since he has yet to *win* the lady he wishes to woo...

Author's Response:

Oh, but in this fic, he hasn't noticed Lothiriel yet...

Oh, oh this is INCREDIBLY Pippish!  And perfectly logical for a Took.

"Pippin grinned. He was going to win this."

Doesn't he always?

Author's Response:

In this fic, at least, yes.  :D

Oh, now I love all the fussing over "cool" and "warm" colors.  Did you ever get your colors "done"?  Back in the early '80s I was diagnosed as an "autumn", LOL!

Pippin's enjoying this entirely too much. And Merry's attempt to pretend he is above it all is too funny!

Author's Response:

Personally, I don't take much stock in getting one's colors done, because we quickly discovered that I changed over the summer from one to the other!

This is a marvelous conversation, but I think my favorite little bit out of it was Merry's "He's eating Man-sized portions again."

*snicker* Turn a phrase on its head, will you?  I think that should become a Shire saying for any hobbit off his/her feed...

Author's Response:

It very well might, provided that hobbits get in enough contact with Men for it to make sense.

Well, I wonder what Khand will make of THAT!

And I bet Pippin's original words were Arwen's EXACT words, and she knew just how it would sound...

Yes, and yes!

Oh, Pippin! I have a feeling you are in for it now...

And you probably don't care, so long as it's funny!

Author's Response:

No, Pippin won't care!  In fact, I imagine that the next few days will be some of the proudest in his life...

What a fun conversation! I can just imagine how hard it would be for Faramir to fight with Eowyn-- but Arwen has a point, he'd certainly not even attempt to fight with any other female!

And I can see the wheels are turning...

Author's Response:

No, Faramir and Eowyn are both trying, but that doesn't mean that they'll be free from all the culture shock.
