I liked this -- it's a charming idea for child Celeborn to meet an Ent!

Nice! I didn't envisage Celeborn being quite as young as this when I was reading that sentence in Two Towers, but of course he must have been at some point, as he was obviously not an unborn elf. And it's a neat twist that at this point it's his uncles he can't envisage as ever having been children--as children will!
That was one dangerous journey, the trip from Cuivienen, and I'm not surprised his uncles are worried.
I wonder whether Treebeard is just helpfully trying to point out to Celeborn where his uncles are or whether he's actually reading Celeborn's mind?
I guess later on Celeborn had the chance to figure out how to greet a tree.
[BTW, this is not my B2MeM review for the day, although I did happen to find this story while looking for possible candidates...]
I was wondering why so many people were finding this fic just now. Thanks for reading, and I'm glad you found it so thought-provoking.

I dare say that Celeborn would have figured it out how he eventually could to talk with trees. I am just so curious now what the ent will do: will it hide the elfling or betray it to his guards? And what would the greeting be? Is he on treebeard’s branches?
I am only wondering about one thing: wouldn't he have known about ents growing in Doriath (or perhaps elsewhere) there? I can imagine that Melian – given her tasks in Lorien on Valinor in Vaná’s and Yavanna’s service - would have made sure that the ents, being the children of Yavanna, had a safe place to remain within her girdle. But oh for the elfing’s impishness here, you kept his thoughts and reasoning fitting his age as he is utterly unaware of the consequences that he could end up in. Perhaps Melian would see to it herself to have him properly educated in Entish lore and care? I love how you use the scene from lord of the Rings and put it to good use in the years of the trees (my assumption).
This is a delightful drabble, fuel for the muses and plot Nazgul’s I’d say. Unintentional, I swear!
Thanks for the review, Rhapsody. It's so nice that people are still enjoying my short little ficlet so long after I posted it. As for Celeborn's knowledge of ents, I actually imagine this to take place before the elves settled in Doriath. The thought was it happened while they're all camped out near the coast waiting for Thingol to turn up again. Or perhaps even before Thingol gets lost, after they've arrived but before they've decided whether or not to leave for Valinor. I couldn't make all of that perfectly clear given the length.
I may want to revisit how Celeborn actually learned about the Ents. There are, after all, nearly twenty more days of BMEM prompts to fill. We shall see.
Thanks in any case for reading. :-)
