What a fun chapter! I love that we get even more of Idrin's backstory, and the encounter with Merry and Pippin.
I also love the deductions you made about Eothain from the same evidence I used, and came to some of the same conclusions, especially that they might likely be kin, and also that his brash words were also an indication of his character.
And now I see the origin of your title! I had completely forgotten about that line in Legolas' song-- your deductions about that make perfect sense as well!
*grin* I am definitely looking forward to more!
Thank you very much for a lovely review! It was very much fun to give Eothain a believable background, and fortunately the Professor has provided us with just enough to make speculations that are indeed plausible. Having him think back on his attitude towards the Three Hunters and Aragorn in particular was a part vital to the story for me, because it serves as a bridge between the rash, almost rude, Eothain of the books and the "ennobled" Eothain I chose to portray in my story. The explanation given for his previous haughty attitude is plausible enough, I think.
I admit that the connection of the title to the story may seem a bit vague, but having Idrin think the white alfirin a resilient little flower, ultimately associating it with hope, was a notion I found intriguing even before any solid ideas for the story had formed, and wanted to include it no matter what. And luckily, again, Tolkien has given enough information about the particular flower so that we can make some logical deductions.
