Chapter 1 - Rivendell

Curiouser and curiouser....  and absolutely fascinating!

I'm a few chapters behind, and will probably try to snatch the odd moment at work to try to catch up.  In which case there won't be comments as I don't log in - but I am, most certainly, intrigued and will be reading!

Author's Response:

Aww, thank you so much, I'm thrilled you like this so far and hope you enjoy the ride! I had never written Elladan and Erestor paired before and still blink at the thought, but the story had a life of its own (and is still screaming at me for a sequel)

There are two other short pieces posted on AO3, one set before and one after this (which is kind of the prologue to the fic I don't have time to write *g*), but one wasn't suitable for MPTT and I wasn't sure about the other.

Prologue

Oh meep!  I've always quite fancied the idea of a garden deep within Thranduil's stronghold - but I've always thought of it as a place of peace and quiet contemplation.  And I really don't think this one is quite like that...

Author's Response:

Not exactly a happy place, no *g*.

Thanks for taking a chance on this and for commenting, lol. I've noticed people are never quite sure what they'll be wandering into!

Chapter 1 - Rivendell

Here's a copy of my B2MeM review of this--again! I hope you are not getting fed up with it...

Actually, I must confess I’m very much not fond of man-eating plant pods, but for you and for Erestor’s sake, I’ll put up with them. I’m not at all surprised that Erestor is currently suffering from plant phobia! Poor Maerdir! (Shudders. Then shudders some more.) I gather that it is actually quite significant that he didn’t try to tell his interrogators that Elrond had sent him. At the very least, it helps not to draw attention to Erestor and Elladan, but I wonder whether there is more to it than that. Also I am wondering about that accent that he couldn’t place. Have you given us a clue to that one already, I wonder? I suppose I could cheat and try checking out the final chapter on the OEAM website (yes, I have been known to do such depraved things in order to reduce readerly anxiety levels…).

The Rivendell chapter is very enjoyable. I do like how you are doing Elladan here—I’d have to go back to the prequel to check, but I think he comes across as even more appealing and attractive here than in the earlier fic. I’m looking forward to spending some more chapters in his company, although I rather think I am about to join the ranks of those who tremble for him while he faces all manners of danger completely unfazed. Clearly, he’s tough on Erestor’s nerves, but very much worth it! The dialogue is great—but then your dialogue usually is. The bits of description are good, too, not overdone and they give you a real feel for the physical environment of Rivendell. And those toads! A bit naughty, but great fun, and you’ve tied them in well with that purple dye, which clearly must be relevant to the colouring of certain pods.

So, off to Mithlond, good. I do hope Gildor hasn’t been eaten. You wouldn’t do that to me, would you? Would you?

I think this is the first time I’ve seen anything of Red’s artwork, except for possibly a stray icon, and I think it looks good and works well with the text. The plant illustrations remind me of old prints (except for the splashes of blood, of course), and Rivendell does look like the Last Homely House (and not as if it was straight out of the movies!).

Author's Response:

I promise I will NEVER get fed up with this wonderful, generous review *g*. Reading it again with a broad smile on my face and an almost irresistable urge to get back to Erestor and Elladan and this huge conspiracy story that I don't undestnand any better than they do (though Gildor and Celebrian could explain a fair bit between them) Thank you so much for posting it here. You made me really happy.

*hugs*
