Biography:

"pandemonium_213" is yet another of my numerous aliases. I'm a biochemist and a regulatory medical writer who supports the machinations of the dark lords of Pharma-dûr (pharmaceutical industry).

I am a longtime Tolkien fan, having first read JRRT’s works in the Years of the Lamps, i.e., from 1966 and onward. My non-fiction JRRT related essay may be found on the reference section of the Silmarillion Writers' Guild. My public blathering on things scientific dangle like so many overripe bananas on Dr. Joan Bushwell’s Chimpanzee Refuge, which I have shamefully neglected whilst the other noisy chimpanzees hoot and brachiate about. However, with the privileges afforded as the grizzled old matriarch there, I occasionally drop by for a grooming.

To date, most of my fannish fictional hackery wallows self-indulgently in my little corner of the SWG where Trinity is the foundation of the Pandë!verse. The rest goes downhill from there. The Good Broideress and several other stories archived on my auxiliary LJ (Eregion) for future novellas in development.  An evolving chronology of the Pandë!verse may be found on my bio page on the SWG.  The majority of my writing likely may take cover under the guidelines of the MPTT archive (G to R-rated), and thus I have been encouraged to join MPTT by several ficcish pals.

Table of Contents

A catch-all for short ficlets, largely centering on yet another OFC in the Pandë!verse, namely Culinen (referenced in various fics, including The Elendilmir and The Writhen Pool), who eventually becomes the master of the Guild of the Heart (healers' guild) in Ost-in-Edhil, and who contributes to the "eldritch alleles" of J. Robert Oppenheimer, Hypatia of Alexandria, and Hedy Lamarr (among others!) in the alternative history of the Pandë!verse.

Table of Contents

During a Second Age equivalent of a natural history "field trip" in the upper Vale of the Glanduin River, a young Mélamírë finds her father's penchant for turning everything into a lesson to be stifling. Taking advantage of Father's unexpected nap, she sets off on a little expedition of her own, intending to return by sunset. However, she makes a discovery that turns what she intended as an afternoon's adventure into something far more harrowing and that challenges what she has been taught.

Rated Teen/PG13 equivalent for moderate violence; heads up for Pandë!verse-centrism

A Cautionary Tale by pandemonium_213

Rated PG
[Reviews - 4]
Table of Contents

Meriadoc Brandybuck has taken a winter's reprieve from the tasks of the Master of Brandy Hall to come to Rivendell so that he might study for his next project  — The Tale of Years.  He brings his wife, Estella, their son, daughters, and their Took cousin with him.  It is shortly before Yule during the waning days of the Year 1454 by Shire Reckoning (Fourth Age, 32). The young hobbits quickly have become thick with the sons and daughters of the Istyanis and Glorfindel and cause something of a ruckus during an evening supper, aided and abetted by Old Winyards. Glorfindel invites the hobbits to join him and his family for an after-dinner brandy, and there in his family quarters, he spins a tale from his boyhood in Aman — a cautionary tale of purloined black powder and faulty fuses.

Warning:  Pandë!verse-centric.  PG for consumption of copious amounts of wine, apple brandy, and mildly inebriated Elves and Hobbits. Also warning for un-beta'ed state.  Nits abound, and thus, the fic is subject to tweaking.

As in Inner Light, the Istyanis considers Yule customs from another culture, but this time, the setting is Ost-in-Edhil during the mid-Second Age and long before she earns that title.  A very young Mélamírë (perhaps 5 years old or so),  helps Lygnel, the family housekeeper, prepare decorations, and Lygnel tells her of the traditions of her folk — a tribe of the Silvan Elves — and why a tree is needed in the house.

A quest to send a hobbit into Mordor bearing the One Ring seems doomed before it starts, yet even before the Council of Elrond, Gandalf feels that Frodo Baggins is three-quarters decided to take on this monumental task.  But how to guide Frodo into reaching the final decision himself?   For this, Gandalf enlists Glorfindel's assistance, which requires an otherwise intelligent man to "dumb himself down" a little, much to his critical spouse's surprise.
